Lecture by Gael Towey, chief creative officer of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. and founding art director of Martha Stewart Living.

In 1990, Gael began working at Martha Stewart Living as founding Art Director. She designed the inaugural issue of the magazine, creating the magazine’s distinct and iconic visual style. She has played a key role in developing the design for all of MSLO’s magazines and merchandising programs, including the Martha Stewart Collection of home products exclusively for Macy’s, the mass market Martha Stewart Everyday product line at Kmart, the Martha Stewart Crafts line at Michaels and select independent retailers, the award-winning Martha Stewart Furniture line with Bernhardt and the company’s expanding home-decorating assortment.

Under Gael's creative direction, Martha Stewart Living has won numerous awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors, the FUSE Brand Design Maverick Award, AIGA Corporate Leadership Award, and the Daimler Chrysler Design Award.

Come hear Gael talk about how design is a way to create value and energize a business and how in order to be a designer at Martha Stewart Living you have to love designing cupcakes.

WGBH tour from 5:00 to 6:00. Before the lecture, join us for a tour of the new $85 million complex that houses WGBH public radio and television operations designed by PolshekPartnership Architects.
